Flashback

I asked a classmate of mine to be a guest blogger for me. She read my book and she had some very strong emotions about me back in the day!! Love Raw and Realness!!! Enjoy!!!
Flashback to 1998, I was voted “Most Dependable” of our class. SHE was voted “Prettiest Eyes.” Pft… prettiest everything! SHE could have any guy she wanted at the drop of a dime. In fact, the reputation SHE held was that she WOULD have any guy at the drop of a dime, or anything they would give her. I was the big girl that guys never looked twice at, so I was EXTREMELY envious. I mean, even the guy I was crushing on back then, asked if I could introduce him to HER! SHE was outspoken and loud. I was not. I was the “good Christian girl.” SHE was um… not. I struggled to even get a guy to look at me once, they would not stop staring at HER. SHE loved it! I could tell! SHE loved being what all the girls wanted to be and all the guys wanted to “have.” SHE loved to party and drink and no matter how big of a fool she made of herself the guys seemed to love her more. UGH! I HATED HER! I hated Jessica!
Fast forward some to graduation night. Somehow, three “unpoplular” girls (me included) ended up at  the after graduation party. There were so many people (kids) there. The music was LOUD! Somehow, among all those people Jessica found us! Ugh! Here we go! She came stumbling over with a wine cooler in her hand. She was clearly intoxicated. Her breath reeked of alcohol.I thought, “I could get drunk on her breath alone!” She yelled, “O my GOD!!! You are at a PARTY! HEY GUYS!!! LOOK!!! Aren’t you suppose to be good girls? Aren’t you a CHRISTIAN?” One of my friends grabbed a wine cooler and took a big swig. Jessica flipped out. “Oh my God!! They drink! They drink! Did you guys all see that?!” I may have taken one sip and as soon as she stumbled her way back to a group of guys, we left. We were there a total of 5 minutes at the most. That was long enough to figure out I still did not like her, maybe even less now. The hate in me thought “One day she will get it! This lifestyle will bite her right in the tush!”
It was just a few months later when I saw her again. It looked as though the hate in me was right. I was with two friends at a movie theater. As we were leaving, Jessica walked up. Well, what was left of her. She was a mess! She smelled terrible. She could barely stand up right. She did recognize us, although she was barely recognizable. She was wearing a baby-doll dress and had spilled mustard all down the front. Her hair was oily and messy. She had sores on her face. She was just a shell of herself. For the first time I was not envious at all! In fact, I was consumed with so much hate, I did not even care about her. I thought she had finally gotten what she deserved!
However, God… Oh our Heavenly Father, you see, HE knew! He had GREAT plans for her! HE knew she would bring hundreds if not thousands to Him through her future testimony. And, if you would have told me at that moment, at the movie theater, that I, Rachel, would one day be writing a blog for Jessica, about HER transformation through Christ. I would have thought YOU were on drugs! Thank God, I was WRONG!

One Refuge Church

IMG_6269Five weeks ago, Josh & Lori Harper took over One Refuge Church. Lori asked me to come speak and it was amazing! It Is really hard to put into words! So many people left with hope! Some left with hope for physical healing and some with hope for spiritual healing. The Holy Spirit was welcome there and He showed up in a powerful way!

I can’t share this in person without crying. I’m even crying as I type this out! This is Tracy, the owner of the beauty school I went to in Hot Springs. That was my season of relapse after relapse. After I would go on a meth binge, I would disappear from school for a few days. Instead of kicking me out, Tracy would pull me in her office and speak encouragement over me! She always believed in me! When we started the book signing, Tracy was the first one in line to see me. She looked me in the eyes and told me that she was proud of me. I lost it when she said that she remembered when I met Jon. It was so special! And she bought 25 copies for the girls at the beauty school!

fullsizeoutput_aaa0What its all about!

One of the first testimonies I got about the book were about a girl named Lynsey. She is currently serving a 5 year sentence in jail because of drugs. Her mom, Wendy, gave her a copy of Worth the Pain before she went in and Lynsey loves the book! We are praying and believing that God will transform her and break every chain that holds her captive! She has two beautiful kids. A 3 year old son, who is being raised by Lynsey’s cousin, McKenzie and a 7 year old daughter that is being raised by her mom, Wendy.

I loved getting to meet every single one of these ladies!

I could not have done this without these three beautiful women by my side!! They were such a strength and support! My sister-in-law, Edna Youngblood, and two friends from my church, Tyler McDaniel and M’Lynn Tillery.

Such cuties!

No trip back home would be complete without a Jen and Juice reunion. This is the Jennifer from the book. My best friend through every season. She is in need of a miracle in her health and I am declaring in Jesus name that we are going to see Him do it! When I wrote the book, I didn’t know it would minister to Jennifer so much. I didn’t know it would light a fire that no illness could put out! Her story is her own to tell, but when she married her husband, they were both wild, party-goers, for at least 12 years of their marriage. One day, Jenn decided to surrender her life to Christ, but the life of her husband is still one of her hardest battles. She gets up for church and goes alone. She carries the kids to church, but they don’t understand why dad isn’t going. No matte what, I know the story isn’t over. Her husband is going to find his way to The Lord and when that happens, they will be unstoppable!

Kirby High School

March 15th I went to the high school that I graduated from 20 years ago. How cool is that to say you wrote a book and then to get to give it to the girls who are in your shoes right now!! The school bought 59 books for the girls from 8-12th grade! Praying that my story is not only relatable but it helps transform their own lives!

Arriving to my high School was freaking awesome

Brandy is the one who invited me back!
